Licensed, Associate or Trainee: What the Titles Mean
Our mission has two parts: making quality counseling affordable and accessible, and helping develop the next generation of skilled, compassionate clinicians. Every therapist on our team is either licensed or supervised by a licensed clinician.
Licensed Therapist
A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist has completed a master's degree and thousands of hours of supervised experience, passed the required California exams, and practices independently. Wendy Barillas, LMFT #133716, our Executive Director, also serves as a clinical supervisor.

A registered associate has completed a master's degree and is registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences while gaining the supervised experience required for licensure, under the supervision of a licensed clinician.

Therapist Trainee
A marriage and family therapist trainee is a graduate student who provides counseling as part of supervised clinical training. At HOPE, our trainees are supervised by Wendy Barillas, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #133716.
