Frequently Asked Questions
Questions Are Welcome Here.
Find clear information about counseling at HOPE, meeting online, therapist titles and getting started.

How Much Does Counseling Cost?
We will go over current fees with you before your first session, so you know what to expect before you begin. You also have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining the expected cost of care. Our Fees page provides more information about that right without asking you to decide anything before you contact us.
Can We Meet Online?
Yes. HOPE offers counseling by secure video for clients who are physically located in California during the session. Online counseling is available for individuals, couples, and families, depending on the therapist. When you call or email, mention that you prefer secure video. Wendy offers counseling in English and Spanish.
Do You Work With Children and Teens?
Yes. HOPE has two children's rooms, and several therapists work with children, teens, and families. Our therapists use developmentally responsive approaches and work with parents as partners. For younger children, counseling may include play. Wendy uses play therapy and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, while Megan incorporates somatic tools. Therapist profiles explain the age groups and concerns each clinician supports.
How Do I Choose a Therapist?
Try the Find Your HOPE Therapist guide on our Our Therapists page, or call or email us and we will help you find a good starting point. Profiles describe who each clinician works with, their focus areas, languages, and approaches. If you have a preference, mention it when you reach out. If you do not, share who the counseling is for and the kind of support you are seeking, and our team can help identify a good starting point.
What Do Licensed, Associate and Trainee Titles Mean?
Every therapist at HOPE is either licensed or supervised by a licensed clinician. Wendy Barillas is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and clinical supervisor. Registered associates have completed a master's degree and are gaining supervised experience toward licensure. Therapist trainees provide counseling as part of supervised graduate clinical training. Each profile states the clinician's exact title and supervision relationship.
Is Counseling Available in Spanish?
Yes. Wendy Barillas offers counseling in English and Spanish. Wendy is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, HOPE's Executive Director, and a clinical supervisor. When you call or email, mention that you would like to meet with Wendy in Spanish. You can request either in-person counseling in Roseville or secure video while you are located in California.
What Happens After I Reach Out?
A therapist will contact you within 48 hours, Monday through Friday. You can call or email to share who the counseling is for, how you would like to meet, whether you are in California, and whether you would like to meet with a particular therapist or in Spanish. Please do not include clinical details in email or voicemail. New client paperwork is completed before your first session.
Is Counseling Confidential?
Therapy is confidential, with legal exceptions such as situations involving safety. Your therapist will explain confidentiality and its limits before you begin so that you can ask questions and understand what applies. Email and voicemail are only for brief contact and preference information, so please do not include clinical details there. This website, email, and phone lines are not monitored for emergencies.
Is HOPE a Non-Profit?
Yes. HOPE Counseling Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2008. HOPE stands for Healthy Outcomes for Personal Enrichment. The practice was created to make quality mental health services more accessible and affordable while helping develop the next generation of skilled, compassionate clinicians through supervised clinical training.

This website, email, phone, and other contact methods are not monitored for emergencies. Calling or emailing HOPE is for beginning ongoing counseling, not immediate or crisis support.
