Affordable Counseling Near Sacramento

Interstate 80 connects Sacramento and Roseville, where HOPE has its one office. Meet with us there or by secure video for affordable, non-profit counseling, whichever suits you.

01

From the Capital to Douglas Boulevard

Sacramento, the state capital, lies southwest of Roseville, and Interstate 80 connects the two. HOPE's office is in Roseville at 2540 Douglas Blvd., Suite 200, so meeting in person means traveling that route to reach us. Meeting by secure video means staying where you are, as long as you are physically located in California during each session.

We offer these as two equal options rather than ranking one above the other. Some people would rather keep counseling close to home, which video allows, and others want the separation of a room that is not part of their everyday surroundings. Either way, the conversation starts with what you want from counseling, not with the format. You can tell us which you prefer, and ask which formats are available with the therapist you have in mind.

02

Counseling in English or Spanish

Wendy Barillas, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #133716, offers counseling in English and Spanish, and she is the only HOPE therapist who counsels in Spanish. It can matter a great deal to talk about painful or personal things in the language you think and feel in. Wendy is also HOPE's Executive Director and clinical supervisor, and she works with individuals, couples, families and children.

Her work centers on trauma and attachment wounds, the lasting effects of childhood and relational experiences, and emotional dysregulation. Her experience also includes supporting survivors of sexual assault and intimate partner violence, co-parenting and reunification services, and work with first responders and military service members. Her training includes EMDR, Brainspotting, Trauma-Focused CBT, play therapy and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy.

More About This

To ask for counseling in Spanish, mention it when you call 916-757-3030 or email info@hope-counselingcenter.org, and ask which formats are available with Wendy. The rest of our team counsels in English. If you need immediate help, call or text 988. Para ayuda en español, llame al 988 y presione 2.

03

A Non-Profit Built Around Access

Founded in 2008, HOPE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit with a two-part mission: to make quality mental health services more accessible and affordable while helping develop the next generation of skilled, compassionate clinicians. HOPE stands for Healthy Outcomes for Personal Enrichment, and rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach, we help each person define what success looks like for them.

That commitment to affordability is built into how the practice runs, not tucked away in a separate program. We will go over current fees with you before your first session, so you know what to expect before counseling begins. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of care, and our Fees page explains that right.

More About This

The second half of that mission shapes the team you will meet. Registered associates and therapist trainees counsel under licensed clinical supervision, which supports reflection, careful ethical decision-making and the steady growth of their skills. As clinical supervisor, Wendy Barillas is devoted to guiding emerging clinicians through that work.

How Counseling Looks at HOPE

Counseling at HOPE is collaborative and shaped around the person, couple, or family in the room. We do not begin with a preset definition of success. Instead, your therapist makes space for what matters to you, helps you identify personal goals, and works with your experiences and strengths. You can talk about what feels difficult, notice patterns, and decide together where to focus.

Our therapists bring different backgrounds and approaches to this work. Some draw from attachment-based, relational, psychodynamic, parts-informed, somatic, emotion-focused, or cognitive behavioral perspectives. Trauma-informed approaches available within the practice include EMDR, Brainspotting, and Trauma-Focused CBT. Work with children and families may also include play therapy and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy. The approach used depends on the therapist, the client, and the goals you discuss together.

More About This

The relationship between client and therapist matters. Our team aims to offer a setting grounded in trust, collaboration, communication, and respect. You can ask questions, share what is or is not helpful, and move at a pace that respects where you are. Therapy can include honest conversation, attention to emotions and relationships, and practical ways of understanding what you are experiencing.

05

Your First Step

A first step does not require having everything figured out. You can read our therapist profiles, or call or email us and we will help you find a good starting point. If you have a therapist preference, let us know. If you do not, we can help identify a good starting point based on the concern, who will attend, the way you would like to meet, and any language preference.

HOPE offers counseling in person at our Roseville office and by secure video for clients who are located in California during the session. Wendy offers counseling in English and Spanish. A therapist will contact you within 48 hours, Monday through Friday. Before beginning, you can ask questions and learn what to expect so that the next step feels clear.

Questions

Common Questions

Do I Have to Come to Roseville to Work with HOPE?
No. Secure video is a full option for anyone physically located in California during each session, so you can meet from Sacramento without making the trip on Interstate 80. If you would like to come in, the office is at 2540 Douglas Blvd., Suite 200, Roseville. Either way, ask which formats are available with the therapist you are interested in.
What Kinds of Concerns Can I Bring?
Relationship issues are HOPE's primary specialty, and our therapists also work with anxiety, depression, stress and burnout, trauma, grief, life transitions, attachment wounds and parenting concerns. Individuals, couples, families, children and teens are all welcome. You do not need a label for what you are facing before you reach out, only a sense that you would like support.
Are All HOPE Therapists Licensed?
Not all of them, but every one is either licensed or supervised by a licensed clinician. Wendy Barillas, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist #133716, is the licensed member of the team and its clinical supervisor. Our registered associates have completed master's degrees and are supervised by a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and our trainees are graduate students supervised by Wendy. Each profile states the therapist's exact title.
