01

Two Equal Ways to Meet

Folsom is a Sacramento County city southeast of Roseville, near Folsom Lake. HOPE has one office, on Douglas Boulevard in Roseville, and secure video lets you meet with a HOPE therapist wherever you are in California. We think of these as equal choices, so neither one is a compromise or a lesser version of the other.

In person, you come into an office with serene, comfortable and confidential rooms and small touches like a reading corner with a full bookcase, a lamp and a blue armchair. By video, you join from a private place you choose and skip the trip. Either way, your therapist begins by learning what matters to you, and the goals you set together guide the work.

More About This

The only firm rule concerns video: you need to be physically located in California during each session, because HOPE's therapists practice under California law. Beyond that, the choice is yours to make, and you can name it when you first reach out, along with any therapist you would like to meet.

02

Affirming Care for Every Identity

HOPE was built on the belief that there is room for everyone, including people who have felt they did not fit a traditional mold. We welcome LGBTQ+ individuals, couples and families, BIPOC clients, and people in non-traditional relationships. Counseling begins with your experience and your goals, not with assumptions about how your life or family should look.

Eva Di Giorgio, a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #144286 supervised by a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, aims to provide a safe, gentle, culturally sensitive, sex-positive and LGBTQIA+ friendly environment. If you are in a non-traditional relationship, including a non-monogamous one, you can ask about Sarah Hausmann, a Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor #15480 supervised by a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, who works with individuals and is comfortable with non-traditional family systems.

More About This

Megan Sullivan, a Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee supervised by Wendy Barillas, works with sexuality, cultural identity and personal growth. Our family counseling includes LGBTQ+ and blended families, and couples whose relationships do not match a conventional picture are welcome to begin here as well.

03

Counseling for Couples, Families and Individuals

From Folsom, you can ask about any of HOPE's services. Individual sessions give you room to understand what you are carrying, and couples work can help two people step out of a repeating cycle. Families can make space for each person's view, and children can use play to express what is hard to say in one of our two children's rooms.

Whatever brings you in, from anxiety, depression or stress and burnout to grief, trauma or a life transition, you do not need to name it perfectly before contacting us. A brief note about who the counseling is for and how you would like to meet is enough to start the conversation.

More About This

HOPE has been a 501(c)(3) non-profit since its founding in 2008, created to make quality mental health services more accessible and affordable. Before your first session, we will go over current fees with you, so you know what to expect. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate, too.

04

How Counseling Looks at HOPE

Counseling at HOPE is collaborative and shaped around the person, couple, or family in the room. We do not begin with a preset definition of success. Instead, your therapist makes space for what matters to you, helps you identify personal goals, and works with your experiences and strengths. You can talk about what feels difficult, notice patterns, and decide together where to focus.

Our therapists bring different backgrounds and approaches to this work. Some draw from attachment-based, relational, psychodynamic, parts-informed, somatic, emotion-focused, or cognitive behavioral perspectives. Trauma-informed approaches available within the practice include EMDR, Brainspotting, and Trauma-Focused CBT. Work with children and families may also include play therapy and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy. The approach used depends on the therapist, the client, and the goals you discuss together.

More About This

The relationship between client and therapist matters. Our team aims to offer a setting grounded in trust, collaboration, communication, and respect. You can ask questions, share what is or is not helpful, and move at a pace that respects where you are. Therapy can include honest conversation, attention to emotions and relationships, and practical ways of understanding what you are experiencing.

05

Your First Step

A first step does not require having everything figured out. You can read our therapist profiles, or call or email us and we will help you find a good starting point. If you have a therapist preference, let us know. If you do not, we can help identify a good starting point based on the concern, who will attend, the way you would like to meet, and any language preference.

HOPE offers counseling in person at our Roseville office and by secure video for clients who are located in California during the session. Wendy offers counseling in English and Spanish. A therapist will contact you within 48 hours, Monday through Friday. Before beginning, you can ask questions and learn what to expect so that the next step feels clear.
