Families

Family Counseling

We welcome families of all shapes and sizes, including blended families, LGBTQ+ families, and families coping with addiction or mental health challenges.

01

In Our Words

We understand that family relationships can be complex and challenging. Our family counseling services can help you and your loved ones navigate conflicts, improve communication, and strengthen your relationships.

02

Make Room for Every Voice

Families can become caught in patterns where everyone is trying to be understood and no one feels heard. Changes, relationship strain, parenting concerns, grief, trauma, addiction, or mental health challenges can affect the whole family system. Counseling offers a place to slow those interactions down and listen for what each person is experiencing.

HOPE welcomes families of many shapes, including blended families and LGBTQ+ families. The work is not based on one picture of what a family should be. Your therapist can help clarify the concerns bringing you together and make room for different viewpoints, roles, strengths, and needs within the family.

More About This

Family sessions may include conversation about communication, emotional patterns, parenting, transitions, or the effects of difficult experiences. With children, therapists may use developmentally responsive ways of connecting, including play. Parents and caregivers remain important partners, and the shape of sessions can be discussed with the therapist.

Wendy works with families and children affected by trauma and attachment wounds. Her experience also includes co-parenting and reunification services, including court-ordered services. Eva works with couples and family concerns across children, adolescents, and adults. Megan works with families and brings her experience as a parent, a former teacher of twenty-five years, and a somatic perspective. Hanna supports families navigating communication, transitions, stress, anxiety, and depression.

03

A Collaborative Starting Point

When you reach out, you can briefly describe who would attend and what the family would like support with. You do not need to share clinical details in email or voicemail. Our team can use the information you provide to help identify a therapist whose experience and client groups align with your request.

Family counseling is available in person at the Roseville office and by secure video when everyone receiving care is located in California. The therapist can explain how they structure the work and answer questions about participation before counseling begins.

04

How Counseling Looks at HOPE

Counseling at HOPE is collaborative and shaped around the person, couple, or family in the room. We do not begin with a preset definition of success. Instead, your therapist makes space for what matters to you, helps you identify personal goals, and works with your experiences and strengths. You can talk about what feels difficult, notice patterns, and decide together where to focus.

Our therapists bring different backgrounds and approaches to this work. Some draw from attachment-based, relational, psychodynamic, parts-informed, somatic, emotion-focused, or cognitive behavioral perspectives. Trauma-informed approaches available within the practice include EMDR, Brainspotting, and Trauma-Focused CBT. Work with children and families may also include play therapy and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy. The approach used depends on the therapist, the client, and the goals you discuss together.

More About This

The relationship between client and therapist matters. Our team aims to offer a setting grounded in trust, collaboration, communication, and respect. You can ask questions, share what is or is not helpful, and move at a pace that respects where you are. Therapy can include honest conversation, attention to emotions and relationships, and practical ways of understanding what you are experiencing.
