Life is full of difficulties that present themselves when we least expect it. No one should struggle alone when trying to navigate these challenges. I have had the honor of working with individuals, couples, and teens dealing with anxiety, anger, depression, low self-esteem, relational difficulties, infidelity, and trauma. These experiences are some of the obstacles that leave us feeling overwhelmed and defeated. When we are in this state, it is difficult to turn off that negative and critical voice that tends to linger longer than we’d prefer. Fortunately, this is something that no one has to endure alone. I know it can be challenging to reach out for help during this time, but in my professional experience, I have had the pleasure to see clients flourish and conquer whichever hardship they were facing. I believe it is their personal strength, resilience and desire to change their current circumstances, that allows them to overcome hardship and thrive.

My training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy allows me to help clients recognize what they are thinking, how it affects their emotions, how they respond, while developing a deeper awareness of why it can be very triggering and emotional at times. Additionally, training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), has allowed me to work with clients dealing with the aftermath of a traumatic event. I have been fortunate enough to witness the successes of EMDR through reprocessing the negative thoughts associated with trauma, into more adaptable positive beliefs. Whether it is a need for immediate coping skills, communication techniques, a better understanding of yourself and relationships, or to process a trauma related incident, I’d love to assist you in this journey. Therapy sessions are offered in-office and via computer, using a secure online video telehealth service. Additionally, I provide a sliding scale fee to offer affordable services and accept Victim Witness/Victim of Crime Compensation from the state of California. I offer a free phone consultation to determine whether I can meet your needs. Feel free to leave a confidential voicemail at: (916) 245-2258 or Email at: ginaharris@hope-counselingcenter.org. I look forward to hearing from you. Supervised by a licensed clinician.

You have taken the first step toward change as you explore the possibilities professional counseling can offer.  Therapy can open a door to hope as we work together to explore areas of your life you want to change.  I believe the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for successful counseling.  I offer a confidential, supportive, and safe environment wherein each individual’s unique human experience is embraced.  I believe joys and struggles in life stem from our relationships.  The relationship may be with ourselves as we seek to establish our identity, values, and goals. Our connection with others such as our parents, spouse, children, co-workers, friends, and other relationships may need to be developed, redefined, clarified, or understood. I incorporate a range of theoretical perspectives, interventions, and techniques as I seek to tailor the counseling experience to each individual’s needs.  I look forward to the opportunity to speak with you and discuss your personal concerns and goals. I have a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapist (CAMFT), and the Sierra Foothills Chapter of CAMFT. I have training in the treatment of trauma which includes EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing).  Additionally, I have further preparation in working with couples including the Gottman approach and EFT (Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy).  Some people seek to incorporate the Christian faith into counseling. My goal is to help you live a purposeful, joy-filled life no matter what life throws our way. Using empirically validated psychotherapy techniques and interventions, I work with individuals, couples, and adults who are adopted with a variety of concerns, including struggling with the effects of trauma, depression, anxiety, life and family changes, and relationship difficulties. Do you need to make changes in your life but don’t know how or where to start? Is past trauma affecting your ability to enjoy the present? Could you use some help managing your emotions? Are your relationships where you want them to be? If any of these questions resonate with you, or you’re facing other challenges, I’m here to tell you there is hope and I can help. Mental health, emotional health, physiological brain health, and human wellness are my passions.

My approach to counseling is strengths-based and goal-oriented, as well as holistic and collaborative honoring your humanness and unique life experiences. Drawing from my education, clinical work, and experiences, I employ cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), emotionally focused therapy (EFT), and I’m trained in acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), as well as eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR; EMDRIA-approved Basic Training Parts I and II). Angie Platt    Folsom

Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #117532

I am an associate marriage and family therapist, under the supervision of licensed clinicians, that came to this profession after spending 20 years in corporate America. In my work as a therapist I have found my true passion in helping people find happier, healthier, and more productive lives. I love working with people in all stages of life and all states of healing. I have experience working with teenagers, parents, individuals and married and co-parenting couples coming alongside them in their difficulties and heartbreak with the goal of finding true joy again.

I believe that the connection you have with your therapist makes all the difference in the world. In our journey together I take a very client-centered, collaborative approach to understanding and identifying your unique goals and needs. Much of the work I do has been with victims of varying levels of trauma. The common thread I see is a need to minimize the effects of your difficult circumstances while looking to feel more whole and in control of your life. I also take a very holistic approach to your therapy helping you process your experiences and more effectively manage your struggles all while developing healthier habits for life enhancing outcomes. I am grounded in the philosophy that therapy is nurturing the beauty that is in you as you learn to overcome your trials. Along with the cognitive behavioral therapy approach, I am specifically trained in EMDR, the Nurtured Heart Approach, Internal Family Systems therapy and Divorce/Co-parenting therapy.

I have been married for 21 years and am raising three kids. I love to read and study over a good cup of coffee and in my spare time you might catch me singing in the band, watching football or traveling to the mountains. I have always been a lifelong learner, curious and inspired by relational joys and challenges. The words of Maya Angelou have become a personal motto that encompasses much of who I am and my approach to life. “When we know better, we do better.” I can be reached by phone at 916-769-9963 or by email at angieplatt@hope-counselingcenter.org.

Life can be hard, especially when we feel lost, alone, in pain, unwell and clueless as to what the answers are. Therapy offers a guiding relationship to help us find our way and not have to face our suffering alone. If you work with me, we will focus on building a secure relationship between us that serves as both a source of support and a model for developing healthy relationships with other people in your life. We will work collaboratively, frequently checking in about what you want and need so that you feel as seen, heard, and understood as possible.

As your therapist, I will strive to help you:

  • Explore what feels hard in your life right now and discover the internal and external resources you need to feel stronger, happier, and more resilient.

  • Identify and shift limiting beliefs you may have about yourself and the world around you that keep you from living life at your full potential.

  • Improve relationships with the important people in your life, starting with your relationship with yourself.

  • Examine and process unresolved trauma that may still live in your body from past experiences after creating a solid container of safety between us.

  • For couples, families or polyamorous folks, I will help you identify the negative cycles that you get caught in and learn to avoid these cycles by better understanding each other’s desires and emotional needs to reduce conflict and increase mutual love and support.

For those looking for specific modalities, I am trained in EMDR, Brainspotting, Hakomi somatic therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I am committed to honoring all forms of diversity and embrace clients of any gender identity, race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, range of ability, relationship configuration, education and spiritual/religious/political belief. Please contact me directly with any questions or to set up an appointment at (916) 246-6496 or johnwunderley@hope-counselingcenter.org. Supervised by a licensed clinician.

Susan D_edited.jpg

Susan DuBay   Sacramento/Roseville

Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee

Hi my name is Susan! I am a Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee under the supervision of a licensed clinician. I entered the field of psychotherapy, because I have personal proof that psychotherapy works. It changes lives for the better. It’s reassuring that empirical studies consistently show that psychotherapy helps people, but I think it is most compelling when one has become convinced of the miracles of psychotherapy through lived experience.

Many years ago, I was at a crossroads in my life. I felt like I was spending all of my energy treading water, and I was exhausted. Additionally, I had trauma in my background, as I think many people do, and it kept haunting me. Deciding that I wanted something more for my life, I began my journey into the healing arts. Over the years, each of my therapists have been warm, down-to-earth, humble, honest, funny, accepting, and highly skilled. In that nurturing environment, I was able to open up and grow. Therapy was very practical: my therapists listened closely, helped me to find my goals, and then worked with me to develop the skills, attitudes, and practices that would move me toward what I wanted for my life.

As my life blossomed, it became clear to me that I wanted to further my education so that I could help others to experience their own miracles. I have received an excellent education from National University and feel particularly comfortable with ACT, CBT, aspects of psychodynamic therapy, and solution focused therapy. I know that mental health is real and attainable when one feels deeply safe as a result of supportive, therapeutic relationships. Feeling safe allows one to relax, evaluate, and develop the skills that will lead to optimal life outcomes. I remember being filled with awe and wonder upon realizing that my mental wellness would continue to improve as long as I continued to invest in it. It was up to me, and I was not alone! If you are intrigued by the idea of limitless possibilities for personal growth and peace, then I hope that you will contact me. I look forward to collaborating with you as we work toward your goals for transformation. You can contact me at  505.385.5657 or email susandubay@hope-counselingcenter.org

Moira Geraghty      Folsom/Roseville

Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee

In 2009, I decided to continue my education and change the direction of my career path.  Psychology was a passion, especially as related to trauma, and those affected by their own or others’ alcoholism or addiction. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in psychology from CSU Sacramento, Summa Cum Laude in December 2015. Currently, I am a Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee, soon to be Associate. I earned my Master’s degree in Psychology at CSU Chico in December of 2019. Not tied to one distinct theory, I am anchored in the attachment and family systems models. My goal in therapy is to provide a safe, compassionate, and comfortable place for my clients to be heard, understood, and share their unique stories. I have been able to help others to feel empowered, to recognize their resilience, and strengths, and to use mindfulness to heal and respond, rather than react to the challenges of life that we all encounter. I have vast life experiences, including travel that has informed my cultural knowledge. I love working with all members of the community and have experience with transgender, teens, couples and individuals. Being the daughter of a veteran I am also eager to work with those who have given so much. I have a grown daughter, a Portuguese Water Dog, a cat, and a house trained rabbit. She enjoys being with her family, riding on the back of her fiancé’s motorcycle, skiing, and spending time in the mountains or at the beach. I can be contacted at 916.542.9298 or moirageraghty@hope-counselingcenter.org

Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee

Hi there! My name is Karyn, and I am a Marriage and Family Therapy Trainee under the supervision of a licensed clinician. Asking for help can sometimes be difficult. However, when life throws us a curve ball, or we feel stuck, overwhelmed, or are hurting, very often the best thing we can do for ourselves is to reach out for additional support. I offer a protected, confidential, and judgment-free environment where you can safely explore life’s challenges in order to reach your full potential. I believe that compassion, understanding, and trust are important in the therapeutic process, all the while remembering the valuable contribution that humor can make. As your therapist, I can help you examine your circumstances, heal from pain you may be experiencing, and achieve the life that you desire and deserve. I have worked with and continue to welcome individuals, couples, and families. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to anxiety, depression, grief and loss, relationships, life transitions, self-esteem, and trauma. I have extensive experience in working with addiction, as I spent 6 years working in both residential and outpatient treatment programs for substance use disorder. My counseling approach is very down-to-earth and person-centered, and I utilize a variety of therapeutic interventions that are tailored to fit each client’s unique needs, because there is no “one-size-fits-all” when it comes to therapy. I have experience with several evidence-based techniques that I can incorporate into your treatment and have training in Parent Child Interaction Therapy.

I look forward to walking with you in your journey towards healing, wellness, and a happier you! If you have any questions or would like to make an appointment, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at (916) 229-8813 or karynlamb@hope-counselingcenter.org.
