Life is full of difficulties that present themselves when we least expect it. No one should struggle alone when trying to navigate these challenges. I have had the honor of working with individuals, couples, and teens dealing with anxiety, anger, depression, low self-esteem, relational difficulties, infidelity, and trauma. These experiences are some of the obstacles that leave us feeling overwhelmed and defeated. When we are in this state, it is difficult to turn off that negative and critical voice that tends to linger longer than we’d prefer. Fortunately, this is something that no one has to endure alone. I know it can be challenging to reach out for help during this time, but in my professional experience, I have had the pleasure to see clients flourish and conquer whichever hardship they were facing. I believe it is their personal strength, resilience and desire to change their current circumstances, that allows them to overcome hardship and thrive.

My training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy allows me to help clients recognize what they are thinking, how it affects their emotions, how they respond, while developing a deeper awareness of why it can be very triggering and emotional at times. Additionally, training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), has allowed me to work with clients dealing with the aftermath of a traumatic event. I have been fortunate enough to witness the successes of EMDR through reprocessing the negative thoughts associated with trauma, into more adaptable positive beliefs. Whether it is a need for immediate coping skills, communication techniques, a better understanding of yourself and relationships, or to process a trauma related incident, I’d love to assist you in this journey. Therapy sessions are offered in-office and via computer, using a secure online video telehealth service. Additionally, I provide a sliding scale fee to offer affordable services and accept Victim Witness/Victim of Crime Compensation from the state of California. I offer a free phone consultation to determine whether I can meet your needs. Feel free to leave a confidential voicemail at: (916) 245-2258 or Email at: I look forward to hearing from you.

You have taken the first step toward change as you explore the possibilities professional counseling can offer.  Therapy can open a door to hope as we work together to explore areas of your life you want to change.  I believe the therapeutic relationship is the foundation for successful counseling.  I offer a confidential, supportive, and safe environment wherein each individual’s unique human experience is embraced.

I believe joys and struggles in life stem from our relationships.  The relationship may be with ourselves as we seek to establish our identity, values, and goals. Our connection with others such as our parents, spouse, children, co-workers, friends, and other relationships may need to be developed, redefined, clarified, or understood. I incorporate a range of theoretical perspectives, interventions, and techniques as I seek to tailor the counseling experience to each individual’s needs.  I look forward to the opportunity to speak with you and discuss your personal concerns and goals.

I have a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapist (CAMFT), and the Sierra Foothills Chapter of CAMFT. I have training in the treatment of trauma which includes EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing).  Additionally, I have further preparation in working with couples including the Gottman approach and EFT (Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy).  Some people seek to incorporate the Christian faith into counseling. I am educated and equipped to integrate this into the therapeutic process if you so desire.

You can contact me directly at 916-625-6474 or by email at:

Life can be hard, especially when we feel lost, alone, in pain, unwell and clueless as to what the answers are. Therapy offers a guiding relationship to help us find our way and not have to face our suffering alone.

If you work with me, we will focus on building a secure relationship between us that serves as both a source of support and a model for developing healthy relationships with other people in your life. We will work collaboratively, frequently checking in about what you want and need so that you feel as seen, heard, and understood as possible.

As your therapist, I will strive to help you:

  • Explore what feels hard in your life right now and discover the internal and external resources you need to feel stronger, happier, and more resilient.

  • Identify and shift limiting beliefs you may have about yourself and the world around you that keep you from living life at your full potential.

  • Improve relationships with the important people in your life, starting with your relationship with yourself.

  • Examine and process unresolved trauma that may still live in your body from past experiences after creating a solid container of safety between us.

  • For couples, families or polyamorous folks, I will help you identify the negative cycles that you get caught in and learn to avoid these cycles by better understanding each other’s desires and emotional needs to reduce conflict and increase mutual love and support.

For those looking for specific modalities, I am trained in EMDR, Brainspotting, Hakomi somatic therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I am committed to honoring all forms of diversity and embrace clients of any gender identity, race, ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, range of ability, relationship configuration, education and spiritual/religious/political belief.

Please contact me directly with any questions or to set up an appointment at (916) 246-6496 or

Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee

Hi my name is Susan! I am a Marriage and Family Therapist Trainee under the supervision of a licensed clinician. I entered the field of psychotherapy, because I have personal proof that psychotherapy works. It changes lives for the better. It’s reassuring that empirical studies consistently show that psychotherapy helps people, but I think it is most compelling when one has become convinced of the miracles of psychotherapy through lived experience.

Many years ago, I was at a crossroads in my life. I felt like I was spending all of my energy treading water, and I was exhausted. Additionally, I had trauma in my background, as I think many people do, and it kept haunting me. Deciding that I wanted something more for my life, I began my journey into the healing arts. Over the years, each of my therapists have been warm, down-to-earth, humble, honest, funny, accepting, and highly skilled. In that nurturing environment, I was able to open up and grow. Therapy was very practical: my therapists listened closely, helped me to find my goals, and then worked with me to develop the skills, attitudes, and practices that would move me toward what I wanted for my life.

As my life blossomed, it became clear to me that I wanted to further my education so that I could help others to experience their own miracles. I have received an excellent education from National University and feel particularly comfortable with ACT, CBT, aspects of psychodynamic therapy, and solution focused therapy. I know that mental health is real and attainable when one feels deeply safe as a result of supportive, therapeutic relationships. Feeling safe allows one to relax, evaluate, and develop the skills that will lead to optimal life outcomes. I remember being filled with awe and wonder upon realizing that my mental wellness would continue to improve as long as I continued to invest in it. It was up to me, and I was not alone! If you are intrigued by the idea of limitless possibilities for personal growth and peace, then I hope that you will contact me. I look forward to collaborating with you as we work toward your goals for transformation. You can contact me at  505.385.5657 or email

I am studying at Palo Alto University, and have worked in the mental health field for 5+ years. My background is in nurturing social and emotional skills in children and adolescents through horsemanship. Each one of us is full of amazing skills and capabilities, however at times there seems to be challenges that come through our lives that will make us feel less than capable of overcoming them. Please know you are not required to overcome these challenges alone.
