My style of counseling is direct, compassionate, supportive, and growth oriented. Our experience together will be interactive and participatory. I will share my perspective with you as we explore the issues that led you to seek counseling. The work will begin with wherever you are right now; with whatever situation you may be facing no matter how threatening, overwhelming, or seemingly hopeless.
I strongly believe in the mind/body connection, because we are affected and shaped by our emotions, our thoughts, and our biology. Keeping this in mind we will explore how your thoughts and perceptions impact your day to day functioning, and how a subtle shift in your perception will allow a deeper more meaningful relationship with yourself. Through this new sense of self-awareness you will be able to have more effective interactions with those around you.
I specialize in working with children, adolescents, and adults dealing with such issues as:
•
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) – Trauma
•
Anxiety Disorders – Stress, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Social Phobia
•
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
•
Mood Disorders – Depression, Dysthymic Disorder, Bipolar I & II
•
Couples Therapy – Pre-Marriage, Marriage, Divorce, Infidelity & Relationship Skills
•
Acculturation Issues
•
Multicultural Issues
•
Blended Family Issues
•
Generational Issues
•
Aging & Geriatric Issues
•
Grief Loss & Bereavement
I lean towards an eclectic approach to therapy and am comfortable with several major counseling theories that complement each other. This integrative approach allows me to embrace the complexities that my clients bring into counseling rather than focusing on diagnosis or labels.
A brief word about my education: I graduated Magna Cum Laude from California State University, Sacramento, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and Master’s Degree in Marriage Family Child Counseler (MFCC).
In addition to the English language, I am fluent in Hindi and Punjabi.
