Hello!
My name is Steven Swink and I am a MFT Trainee under the supervision of Darlene Davis, MFC #40875. I first want to acknowledge the step you have just taken in coming to this site and seeking assistance in working through areas of need in your life. I welcome you to Hope Counseling Center and would like to share a little about myself, in hopes that I can learn more about you in the future.
During my MFT program, I have worked alongside families with children whom have special needs, in a critical intervention context. In my critical intervention work, I have assisted families in working through the various challenges and demands associated with special needs. Through my crisis work and education I have learned even more about the amazing impact of therapy, as I have sat on the opposite side of the chair for my own therapy as part of my masters program. I know that in order to conduct therapy, it was important to know what it feels like to experience it. My educational and work experience has brought me here to HOPE Counseling Center, where it is my privilege to work with various clients.
Therapeutic Approach:
It is my personal belief that when you enter into therapy, we enter into a therapeutic relationship together. Within that belief, my therapeutic orientation is Emotionally Focused, which entails awareness, reflection, and transformation of emotions taking place within the context of a relationship. Recognizing that we all are different, I too will incorporate my orientation and apply an eclectic therapy style to our sessions to meet each client’s individual needs.
Whether you struggle with depression, anxiety, grief/loss, addiction, stress, trauma, domestic violence, or a variety of other needs, I feel we can roll up our sleeves and do some great work together.
Services:
If you are seeking counseling for individual, couple, or family related needs, I can offer a flexible schedule to accommodate life’s routines. Through HOPE Counseling Center, I can offer low cost counseling on a sliding scale and the rates are extremely affordable!

Background:
I began my career working as an EMT in San Diego, CA. During my time on the ambulance, I completed my Bachelors of Arts in Human Development from California State University San Marcos. As I completed my degree, I saw professionals in my field of study speak to the impact of therapy, which ultimately led me to pursue a career in Marriage and Family Therapy. Shortly after I completed my final shift on the ambulance, I began working on my Masters degree in Counseling Psychology at National University in Sacramento, CA.
